Why Do I Need an Oil Change?
The day seems to go a lot smoother after the taste of freshly-brewed coffee. At Hopewell Tire & Auto Repair, Jittery Joe’s Coffee fuels all of the technicians and office staff. Our morning coffee works miracles, and everyone seems to perform their jobs better after a small dose of caffeine. It is difficult to imagine trying to go a day without coffee in the morning.
Hopewell Tire & Auto Repair running without morning coffee is like an engine trying to run without oil. Without the respectable brown, miracle-working liquid running through all of the moving parts, neither Hopewell Tire & Auto Repair nor the engine function correctly. While Hopewell Tire & Auto Repair could survive a day without coffee, an engine cannot survive a day without oil.
Knowing the importance of oil to the engine, a customer brought in a vehicle believed to be leaking oil. Before coming to Hopewell Tire & Auto Repair, the customer topped off the oil. When we drained the old oil from the vehicle, Danny, one of the auto technicians, noticed a strange shimmer to the oil. Interested in the glittery substance, Danny filled a Jittery Joes cup to examine the substance. We’ve seen a lot of dirty oil drained from vehicles. However, the amount of metal in the oil shown by the Jittery Joe’s cup tells us that the oil has not been changed recently.
Oil serves as a cooling, lubricating, and cleaning agent in the engine. Over time, oil picks up dust, dirt, and other contaminants that make the oil less efficient and effective. Believing that the oil level was low, the customer topped off and overfilled the oil. However, the customer experienced oil unable to perform its function, not an oil leak. To avoid potential engine trouble, a driver should always maintain a regular oil change schedule. An oil change approximately every 5,000 miles keeps a vehicle running smooth and prevents additional damage.
